Agreement Establishing The Eu-Lac International Foundation

The European Union-Latin America and Caribbean Foundation (EU-LAK) is an international organisation established in 2010 by the heads of state and government of the European Union (EU), Latin America and the Caribbean (LAK) to strengthen and promote the strategic partnership between the two regions, improve their visibility and promote the participation of the civil societies concerned. [1] In the economic field, the EU-LAK Foundation[13] focuses on the internationalisation of small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs). The statement of the EU-CELAC ministerial meeting of July 2018 stressed “the need for added value by developing countries and the continued integration of micro-enterprises, small and medium-sized enterprises into value chains[14] The founding agreement came into force on 17 May 2019, after members, including the Federal Republic of Germany and the European Union, , have tabled the instruments for ratification. to create the Foundation as an international organization. The Foundation`s founding agreement is the first international agreement negotiated by the 62 members of the strategic partnership between the European Union, Latin America and the Caribbean, which is a bi-regional milestone with its entry into force. The cooperation of civil society is a key element of the Foundation`s work. The international organization will focus on a wide range of issues such as sustainability, democracy and how universities can be shaped for the 21st century. The Foundation is funded by voluntary contributions from the European Commission, European and Latin American countries, foundations, development banks and the private sector. Germany`s contribution comes from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the free and Hanseatic city of Hamburg. In order to promote possible alliances and synergies in areas relevant to the bi-regional partnership and to offer new contacts to various civil societies (universities, research centres, NGOs, international organisations, SMEs, government authorities, individual and post-cycle researchers) in both regions, the Foundation operates mapeo.
